The Nexus One is a very slick and beautiful phone that almost makes other devices look out dated.

The phone looks more like the iPhone than any other phone on the market. There is no physical keyboard like the Android-powered Motorola Droid, and the tradeoff is a much slimmer design. The phone is 11.5 mm deep, slightly thinner than the iPhone 3GS at 12.3 mm. It is also slightly lighter than the iPhone 130 grams v. 135 grams). Adding an "S" to the end of the iPhone 3G may have given us one of the worst mobile phone names next to the LG Cookie, but there's no denying the extra speed in executing applications. Though, that's the weird part, as all of the speed seems to be in the execution; once you're in an app the old iPhone 3G works just fine. The difference in the time it takes to execute varies quite a bit. Nokia's N series handsets are usually the ones that steal all the limelight, but for many it's the rather more understated and more business-focussed E series smartphones that have been among the company's most impressive offerings. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is very much styled on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic but with a 2.9-inch screen - rather than 3.2-inch found on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic – it’s a slimmer and slightly more compact device. The casing is a little more square too and while the design isn’t quite as robust as the Nokia 5800 we found this a pleasing phone to hold and use.

What we like is that Nokia has kept the design to a minimum, with even ports and buttons around the sides of the phone kept to the basic. You’ll still find a 3.5mm audio jack, for instance, along with a mini-USB connector and charge port.

The power packed N900 looks to offer computer grade performance in a compact size, and by and large that is exactly what it does. The technical specification includes an ARM Cortex-A8 600 MHz processor with 256MB of RAM (and 768MB of virtual memory) which gives the N900 the muscle to deliver a super fast, fluid user experience. Measuring 111 x 60 x 18mm, and weighing 181g, the N900 is a little on the hefty side, but still retains a compact feel. The phone has a full, resistive TFT touchscreen, measuring 3.5 inches across, and supporting up to 16 million colours, with a pixel resolution of 800 x 480. With a built in accelerometer the display auto rotates as and when the need arises; for example sliding out the full three row QWERTY keyboard automatically throws the display into landscape view. There is a built in proximity sensor, which automatically disables the touchscreen when in call, for example, so that it is not possible for the touchscreen to be activated as the screen rests against your cheek.
